Images from the Willis Archive

The collections, including archive images, held at The Willis Museum are managed by Hampshire Cultural Trust on behalf of the people of Hampshire and all enquiries regarding them should be directed towards the trust’s Collections team - please visit https://www.hampshireculture.org.uk/contact and send your enquiry via the form to collections@hampshireculturaltrust.org.uk.

There is a collection of photos and images of old Basingstoke and area that are archived in the Local History Resources Room at the Willis Museum. Access to these archives for research purposes can be obtained by prior appointment by making an enquiry via the Contact Form. The Local Resources Room is manned part-time by volunteer archivists.

A sample of these photos and images, changed each month, is given below. A number of the photographs in the archive were taken Terry Hunt, 1883-1949 a photographer who lived and worked in and around Basingstoke. He took many photos, some of which were available on postcards.

Following requests I have updated the gallery with descriptions that are attributed to the photos in the archive database. However, I have no knowledge whether these descriptions are accurate or not - any comments will no doubt be well received by the archivist - This email address is being protected from spambots.
